Chow down on coffee and pastries while you tap your toes, or stick around for lunch (and maybe a malted or egg cream!) afterwards.

Kings County Fair

County fairs. They’re loud. They’re noisy. They’re riddled with all kinds of perilous junk food, and this one is no exception. SO OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO GO!!!! Go ride the rides, play the games, and indulge in at least one plate of funnel cake. It’s all part of the fun. By the way, there are a couple of new attractions at this year’s fair – The Stinger, the World Famous High Flying Pages aerial trapeze show, Miss Vicenta and her Royal White Bengal Tigers and equestrian Artistry performed by The Riding Donnerts with Miss Mercedes Ballerina on Horseback.

Roof Garden, Cafe and Martini Bar @ Metropolitan Museum

When you’re done visiting the hallowed halls of the Met, refuel and recover with a light bite up on the wonderful rooftop garden. Each spring features a new installation by a contemporary artist, and this year features Cloud City by Tomás Saraceno.

There are rules and guidelines regarding children who actually want to walk through Cloud City (i.e. children must be 10 years of age, and 48″ tall) , but that won’t interfere with your ability to dine on the roof or view Cloud City from the roof deck if your children are on the younger and shorter side. So go ahead, and end a long day with a cocktail and a sunset from one of the best perches in town.

4th Annual Brooklyn Folk Festival: Family Concert & Workshop

Jarana Beat, a Afro-Mexican band will host a family workshop on Mexican dance and song, then perform a concert. Locally brewed beer, wine and food will be available for purchase.

Jarana Beat fuses elements of Mexico’s African and Amerindian traditions with salsa, cumbia, and other contemporary music in its present-day take on folkloric music. With contagious charm and good vibes, this band is capable of getting any audience on its feet! Musical director Sinuhé Padilla-Isunza has mined the musical traditions of his native Mexico and other Latin American countries in an ongoing search for a distinct style with roots, resulting in the creation of this musical amalgam.

Spring Kids Fest 2012!

This festival is the unofficial kick-off of the outdoor kiddie concert season in New York City! Enjoy musical performances by The Fuzzy Lemons, The Rockdoves and Songs for Seeds.

What else? A magic show, pie throwing, story time yoga and kids crafts hosted by some of the downtown museums.

Please note, this annual event is VERY popular. If you’re not up for a bit of a crowd, come back later in the season for any one of the wonderful weekly concerts that take place in the park.
